Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, last year, predicted that the 6th gen iPad Mini, packing an increased 8.5-inch screen, would emerge in the first half of 2021.
Well, there's been very little follow up news to that but a 2021 release date seems unlikely now but still is on the cards nonetheless, and leaker Jon Prosser has put together several bits of intel into a series of new renders drawn by RendersbyIan.
It seems that the iPad Mini 6 could be getting a new design that is similar to the likes of the iPad Air 4 and iPad Pro, and there may even be a new, smaller Apple Pencil.
In a video, Prosser claims that the new iPad Mini would feature Apple’s A14 Bionic chipset and 5G connectivity — same as the iPad Air 4. The same processor powers the iPad Air and iPhone 12 models from last year. The mini-tablet is said to measure 206.3 x 137.8 x 6.1 mm, which is the same thickness as the 5th-Gen iPad Mini.
The renders also show that touch ID is now integrated with the power button at the top — just like it is on the iPad Air 4. At the bottom, there's two speaker grilles and a USB Type-C port for charging — again, a lot like the iPad Air 4.
Prosser also hints that Apple could launch an iPad Mini-specific Pencil that is smaller in size.
Now, back in April, we did spot iPad mini dummies from SonnyDickson, which hinted at a big redesign for the iPad mini 6. The same bit of information was earlier mentioned by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman who was sure of major redesign for the iPad mini. Prosser's leak seems to confirm this, and it will be the first major facelift for the iPad mini in six years.
