Arab filmmakers join the team of Berlin Film Festival's international jury

The trio will be joining international filmmakers who will all decide the Golden and Silver Bear winners.

One of the prominent film festivals globally, the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival is all set to take place from February 10 to 20, 2022 as an in-person event. As the preparations leading up to the festival, organisers Arab filmmakers who are joining the international jury.

Total of three Arabian filmmakers—Algerian-Brazilian film director Karim Ainouz, Tunisian-French producer Said Ben Said and Algerian-Tunisian screenwriter Anne Zohra Berrached will join the team of the international jury for selections.

The trio will be joining international filmmakers including M. Night Shyamalan, Tsitsi Dangarembga, Hamaguchi Ryusuke, and actor Connie Nielsen who will all decide the Golden and Silver Bear winners.

Ainouz is an award-winning director and screenwriter, known for productions ‘Invisible Life,’ ‘Madame Sata’ and ‘Mariner Of The Mountains.’ Ben Said is famous for his 2016 thriller ‘Elle,’ his 2019 drama ‘Bacurau’ and most recently 2021 films ‘Good Mother’ and Tralala.’ Berrached is known for her short film “Der Pausenclown” (“The Class Clown”) in 2009 and she was appointed to the international jury of the 53rd Chicago Film Festival.

Ainouz, Said and Berrached are not the only Arab filmmakers to join the festival’s jury members, but also Lebanese sound editor, director and actress Rana Eid who has been selected as a jury for the Berlinale Documentary Award.

The in-person event scheduled for February has developed a comprehensive and binding hygiene policy in consultation with the relevant authorities along with the 2G-plus-mask-plus-test model that applies to all events.

The film premieres are taking place from February 10 to 16, with repeat screenings being presented from February 17 to 20. Tickets can be booked exclusively online via the programme webpages for the entire festival period.
