Taking the world by storm, NFTs or non-fungible tokens has dominated global attention and now the NFT craze has captured Saudi Arabia, thanks to auction house Sotheby’s, which will host its NFT exhibition in the Kingdom.
The NFT exhibition will take place from February 25 to 27, 2022 in Public Program Auditorium at the Diriyah Biennale, in Riyadh.
Taking place in partnership with the Visual Arts Commission of Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Culture, the three-day digital art forum will feature the recent history of NFTs and related artistic movements, introduction to the NFT ecosystem and introduction to the NFT market and the Future of this new medium.
Projecting the history of NFTs, from their inception seven years ago until today, the dedicated talks programme will bring together the pioneering artists, collectors and curators that are defining the space.
“When a collector buys an NFT, they are buying a token (or certificate) and thus the singular digital artwork or photograph linked to it,” Sotheby’s explained in a statement.
The interactive exhibition will let visitors leave with a personalised Proof of Attendance Protocol, a digital collectable token in the form of an NFT that records their attendance on the blockchain.
“This educational focus on NFTs is a natural next step in Sotheby’s strong history of supporting innovative cultural programs and is testament to our longstanding commitment to Saudi Arabia echoing the Kingdom’s transformative Vision 2030,” said Edward Gibbs, chairman of Sotheby’s Middle East and India in a statement.
