There is good news for the Canadian Inuit People. Now they can enjoy the services of Facebook in their own language. Canadian broadcaster CBC reports that Facebook has announced this on the Nunavut Day and informed that Facebook will have settings for Inuktut dialects by next year.

As an initial process to help build the new service, Facebook is reaching out to Inuktut speakers to help crowd-source the new interface with correct translations of words and phrases currently used on the site. For example, users would submit their own translations for the "Like" or "Share" button, and eventually, a consensus would be reached for use in the final version.

This move from Facebook is highly appreciated and warmly welcomed by the community leaders in Nunavut. Inuktut is the regional language of Nunavut spoken by the majority of the region. People mainly use Facebook to get connected to their family and friends and with the introduction of their regional language people will have more access to social media and the language will also get popularity globally. A similar service for the Alaskan Inuit dialect Inupiaq appeared on a website a few days back. English is getting too much importance in social media as it’s the most used language. At this juncture, Facebook’s decision to bring in regional languages into their services is a welcome move.
