Dubai is gradually becoming the next fashion hub as most of the top fashion houses are choosing the region to host their shows. The latest one to do so is a luxury fashion house, Chanel.

Chanel is all set to bring its Cruise 2021-22 show to Dubai and plans to stage its latest resort collection via a physical runway show. The location of the show hasn’t been disclosed yet, but the show will take place in the emirate on November 2, 2021.

Creative director Virginie Viard’s graphic collection was first unveiled digitally in May and was staged in Carrieres de Lumieres, a series of vast chambers, in Les Baux-de-Provence.

Now that the show is about to be held in a physical manner, Viard listed some of the elements of the collection and in a statement shared, “Lots of fringes, in leather, beads, and sequins, T-shirts bearing the face of the model Lola Nicon like a rock star, worn with tweed suits trimmed with wide braids and pointed silver Mary-Janes.”

The monochromatic collection draws its inspiration from Jean Cocteau’s play ‘Orpheus,’ which deals with themes of morality, sacrifice, and artistry.

The mid-season, mini-fashion cruise collections can be traced back to 1919, when Gabrielle Chanel realized that wealthy clients were taking mid-winter holidays in the Mediterranean and needed a new wardrobe for their travels.

He then ran a collection of lightweight, easy-to-wear pieces suitable for a trip onboard a yacht, giving the world its first cruise collection.

Now, cruise collections have caught the fancy of the fashion world. Fashion brands generally unveil their cruise collections around May, and arrive in stores in November, just before the holiday season.

While fashion buffs are eagerly waiting for Chanel’s new collection in Dubai, it is not the first time Chanel has staged a physical runway show in Dubai. In 2014, Chanel 2015 show took place which featured models Lindsey Wixson, Binx Walton, Joan Smalls, and Soo Joo Park.
