Dubai has been a melting pot of art and a flourishing spot of artists from all over the world. With that, the region boasts of various art centres and Jameel Arts Centre is one of them.

Located at Jaddaf Waterfront, Jameel Arts Centre has been prepping for the upcoming season and has announced its roster for the autumn/winter period.

Bringing together major thematic group shows, solo exhibitions, film and public programmes, the arts centre will see works from the 1970s era through to the present day.

The season will see over 55 artists from 14 countries taking part in the schedule, which is set to begin at the start of September.

Some of the exhibitions to keep an eye for include a group exhibition of 11 artists—The Distance From Here that will showcase works from the Art Jameel Collection plus new commissions and Off Centre / On Stage. Curated by architect and writer Todd Reisz, the exhibition will feature more than 60 never-before-seen photographs of Dubai’s development in the late 1970s.

The event will also have Middle East’s first solo exhibition by Filipina artist Pacita Abad titled ‘I Thought the Streets Were Paved with Gold’. Another latest addition to the schedule would be the Artist’s Room –a new interactive sound and video installation by Samson Young.

The schedule not only has art galleries, but the arts centre’s programmes also extends into film and sculptures. The premiere of Shuruq Harb’s new film, The Jump – will be screened on September 8 with the latest instalment of Library Circles showcasing the original research by writer and filmmaker Salma Serry.

An annual series of installations by UAE-based and international artists for the Jaddaf Waterpark Sculpture Park will also debut on December 11.
