Mashable: 'Today's goal has a different flavour.'
Cristiano Ronaldo keeps proving why he's one of the best footballers in the world. On Monday, Ronaldo helped Al-Nassr beat Al Rayyan in the AFC Champions League. The Al-Nassr superstar scored the second goal as his team defeated Al Rayyan 2-1 in the second round of the AFC Champions League. It was a special moment for Ronaldo as it came on what would have been his late father's birthday.
After scoring the goal, Ronaldo pointed to the skies as he dedicated the win to his late father, who would have turned 71 on September 30.
After the game, Ronaldo shared, "Today's goal has a different flavour and I wish my father was alive because today is his birthday."
Cristiano Ronaldo's father, Jose Dinis Aveiro, passed away in 2005 due to liver failure. The footballer was 2o-years-old when his father died. In an earlier interview with Piers Morgan, he revealed that he barely spoke to his father. "He was a drunk person. I never spoke with him, like a normal conversation. It was hard," said Ronaldo.
The Portuguese star also shared photos on his Instagram, celebrating his team's win against Al Rayyan. He captioned the post, "Hard work pays off. Let's keep going!"
Apart from Ronaldo, Sadio Mane also helped their team win the second game. Mane gave the lead before half time whereas Ronaldo scored the winning goal in the 76th minute.
