The group of cyclists pedalled for more than 100 kilometres to mark UAE’s Golden Jubilee celebrations.
The streets of Abu Dhabi on Tuesday was filled with cycling enthusiasts as they pedalled their way to Expo 2020 Dubai. The group of cyclists pedalled for more than 100 kilometres to mark UAE’s Golden Jubilee celebrations.
A total of 240 riders comprising 34 nationalities, made their way from Abu Dhabi to Expo 2020 Dubai in an event that was titled ‘Golden Jubilee Tour’ held under the patronage of His Highness Lt. Gen. Sheikh Saif bin Zayed al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and UAE Minister of Interior.
For the smooth transitioning of the cyclists to the Expo, the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) closed the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Road, Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Road between 4 pm to allow the passing of the cycling tour.
Organised by the Ministry of Interior (MoI), to celebrate the Golden Jubilee as part of the UAE’s 50th anniversary of the Union, the race began at 1:30 PM GST, and two and a half hours later, the first group of cyclists crossed the finish line at Expo’s Boulevard 2020.
The cycling tour included stops in a number of tourist places, educational paragraphs and accompanying events, during which part of the history and achievements of the Ministry of Interior during the race were reviewed.
At the end of the tiring but fun race, an awards ceremony was held at Expo 2020’s Dubai Millennium Amphitheatre. The first place was bagged by Grega Bole of the Shabab Al Ahli Cycling Team, the second was Hamza Yacine who cycled under the MOI banner, while third place went to Essaid Abelouache of the Al Shafar Jumeirah Cycling Team.
First place in the team category went to Al Shafar Jumeirah Cycling Team while Woosh bagged second prize and Yasi Team the third.
