DIMC unveils 2026–2027 marine sports calendar with 40 events

https://emiratitimes.com/: Dubai: Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) has announced its calendar for the 2026–2027 marine sports season, featuring 40 races, championships, and sporting events scheduled between September 2026 and April 2027.

The comprehensive program brings together a mix of traditional and modern marine sports across the UAE and international circuits, reinforcing DIMC’s position as a leading organizer of world-class marine sporting events while further enhancing Dubai’s reputation as a global destination for marine sports.

The new season will begin in September with the 22ft ‘Al Shindagha’ Traditional Dhow Sailing Race. The calendar also includes an extensive lineup of 22ft, 43ft, and 60ft traditional dhow sailing races, the UAE Modern Sailing Championship, traditional rowing competitions, aquabike championships, fishing tournaments, kitesurf competitions, kayak events, and the club’s participation in and hosting of rounds of the UIM Formula 1 World Championship and the UIM XCAT World Series.

One of the key highlights of the season will be the organization of two editions of the prestigious Al Gaffal 60ft Traditional Dhow Sailing Race. The postponed 35th edition is scheduled for October 2026, while the 36th edition will be held in April 2027, celebrating one of the UAE’s most iconic maritime sporting traditions.

Dr. Ahmad Saeed Bin Meshar, Chairman of Dubai International Marine Club, said the new calendar reflects the club’s commitment to balancing the preservation of the UAE’s rich maritime heritage with the continued growth of modern marine sports.

Dr. Meshar noted that the program aligns with Dubai’s vision of hosting major international sporting events while showcasing traditional marine competitions that form an important part of the nation’s cultural identity.

Bin Meshar also highlighted that the continuous support of the UAE’s leadership for sports and athletes has played a vital role in establishing Dubai as one of the world’s premier destinations for marine sporting events.

Dr. Meshar added that the club aims to build on its organisational success during the upcoming season by delivering a diverse calendar that serves athletes, professionals, and marine sports enthusiasts alike. The program will also focus on developing national talent, preserving the country’s maritime legacy, and strengthening the UAE’s presence on the international marine sports stage through the hosting of prestigious global championships.
