The newly christened Discovery Inc., that formed when Discovery Communications and Scripps Networks Interactive completed their merger, is poised to explore the OTT route, as per media reports,.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Discovery CEO David Zaslav, citing the company’s library, said a streaming service featuring content from Discovery, Scripps and potentially others could be priced at between six and eight dollars.
Industry watchers believe the $14.6 billion takeover of US cable rival Scripps Networks Interactive by Discovery offers the economies of scale for an OTT platform.
The group comprises channels such as Discovery Channel, Travel Channel, TLC, HGTV and Animal Planet among others, and owns an estimated 8,000 hours of programming.
