Mashable: ‘The Lion King’ musical is set to run for four weeks in the month of November
Award-winning The Lion King musical by Disney is the highest-grossing Broadway production ever made.
The Lion King will make its debut in the Middle East at Etihad Arena on Yas Island. The show is set to run for four weeks starting from November 16 to December 10.
The musical premiered 25 years ago in 1997 and has been watched by nearly 110 million people around the world.
The critically acclaimed show will be staged at Etihad Arena on weekdays and weekends with two performances per day on Saturday and Sunday.
The show has won more than 70 global theatrical awards which include a Laurence Oliver Award for Best Choreography and Costume Design, a Grammy for Best Musical Show Album, and six Tony Awards.
The president and producer of Disney Theatrical Productions, Thomas Schumacher in a released statement said, “Director Julie Taymor and her extraordinary creative team first brought The Lion King to the stage in a stunning production 25 years ago, and this production brings that vision to thrilling life at every performance.”
He continued, “It's a joy to bring The Lion King to the Middle East for the first time in the show’s history.”
The musical is performed all over the world with permanent residences in New York, London, Tokyo, and Madrid.
June 24 marks the 28th anniversary of the release of the original The Lion King movie by Disney.
