As India celebrates Diwali in the coming weekend, the festival of lights is also going to take over the Expo 2020 Dubai. The mega event is going to be full of festive activities this week, with Diwali celebrations running until November 5.
Bringing India’s rich and diverse customs and culture, Expo 2020 will include dance, music, art, cinema, food and a specially curated 360-degree illumination projection show at Al Wasl Plaza.
To mark the festivities, the Indian Pavilion has created an interactive musical LED rangoli along with oversized diyas (oil lamps traditionally made of clay) with a backdrop inspired by mandala art.
There is also a range of performances, including sibling duo Salim and Sulaiman Merchant, and Bollywood playback singer Vipul Mehta performing on November 4. Indian rapper Badshah will headline the Diwali edition of Late Nights @ Expo at Jubilee Stage on November 4, presenting The Live Experience, featuring Aastha Gill and Rico.
The Expo will also see delectable food-themed around Diwali festivities with Indian restaurants dishing out Diwali treats. There will be high-end Indian dining courtesy of Rohit Ghai, Diwali-themed baking classes at Bread Ahead Bakery, and a delightful sweet and savoury menu at Farrago.
Not just Expo 2020, the entire Dubai city will submerge in Diwali celebrations. To mark the annual festival, a series of spectacular displays will take over.
The world’s largest observation wheel, Ain Dubai, will also showcase Diwali fireworks at Bluewaters Dubai. Spectators will be treated to impressive views, especially with the added backdrop of Palm Jumeirah and that awesome Dubai Marina skyline.
The Dubai Festival City Mall will have a Dubai-style fireworks display at 9.30 pm on the mall’s waterside along with plenty of tasty bites, shopping, and family fun-filled activities to be had at neighbouring Ripe by the Bay.
