The facility can power 135,000 residential units
The Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed has successfully inaugurated the world's largest waste-to-energy facility.
Launched by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed in Dubai, the facility is worth Dh4 billion.
On Tuesday, July 4, 2023, Dubai Crown Prince took to his official Twitter account and shared a video clip from his visit to the renewable energy plant.
Sharing the clip, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum wrote on Twitter that he inaugurated the “world’s largest” and “most efficient” waste-to-energy facility in the Emirate.
The renewable energy plant is located in Warsan and features an investment of “AED 4 billion.” Dubai Crown Prince quoted the project as “remarkable” which reinforces the Emirates’ status as a “global leader” in sustainable infrastructure.
As per the post, the facility can generate “220 megawatt-hours” of renewable energy which can power “135,000 residential units.” The waste-to-energy facility can also process “2 million tonnes” of waste per year without any adverse impact on the environment.
Sheikh Hamdan also congratulated the exceptional teams behind this project. He also wrote that they are “committed” to arranging “advanced technologies” to build a “brighter” and more “sustainable” future.
As per Khaleej Times, the Waste to Energy Centre will support the objectives of Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and will help the city to transform into a global clean energy and green economy hub by the year 2050. The project is also scheduled to finish by the year 2024.
