Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, recently delighted his 16.3 million Instagram followers with a heartwarming clip capturing a rare sight in the desert city – elephants relishing the rain against the iconic backdrop of the Dubai skyline.

In the video, five African elephants can be seen grazing amidst desert vegetation as rain showers drench the landscape, with overcast skies casting a dramatic ambience over the city. The UAE experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning, a spectacle rarely witnessed in this arid region.

This isn't the first time Sheikh Hamdan has shared glimpses of rainy weather on his Instagram platform. He often offers a window into the diverse weather patterns of Dubai, showcasing the city's beauty in every season. Just a few months ago, on March 9, he shared several clips capturing the serene charm of a rainy day spent in the desert.

The recent rainfall event in the UAE marked a historic moment, as it surpassed records dating back to 1949, making it the heaviest rainfall in 75 years. The National Center of Meteorology reported staggering figures, with the Khatm Al Shakla area in Al Ain recording a remarkable 254 mm of rainfall in less than 24 hours. This surpassed the previous record set in 2016 when the Shuwaib station logged 287.6 mm of rainfall.

However, the heavy rainfall also brought some disruptions, particularly in the transportation sector. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) reported additional service disruptions on the Red Line of the metro system, affecting commuters between UAE Exchange and Dubai Internet City stations, as well as between Max station and Expo 2020 and UAE Exchange stations.

Moreover, the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) issued yellow alerts in Al Ain due to fog, cautioning motorists about reduced visibility on roads until 9.00 am. To manage the traffic flow towards Sharjah on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, the RTA diverted traffic to Dubai-Al Ain Road, leading to Emirates Road.

Despite the challenges posed by the rainfall, Sheikh Hamdan's uplifting Instagram post serves as a reminder of the beauty found in nature's unexpected moments, even amid bustling urban landscapes like Dubai.
