Last week, on Saturday, number plate P7 was bought for a massive Dh55 million during the ‘Most Noble Numbers’ auction in Dubai. It sets a new record for the vehicle plate.
According to The Khaleej Times, the bid for the plate was fierce amongst the guests from Four Seasons resort in Jumeirah. The host asked whether the people participating could beat the record of Dh52.5 million, the price a number plate was sold in Abu Dhabi 16 years ago. The answer is certainly a yes.
The host started the bid at Dh15 million, and it reached Dh30 million in a matter of a few seconds. From there on, the competition grew difficult. of the people attending the auction, one of them was Telegram's founder, Pavel Valeryevich Durov, a French-Emirati, who raised the bit to Dh35 million.
Then the auction fired up as people began to raise the bar. In a few minutes, the bid reached Dh55 million, which was by a participant who wishes to remain anonymous.
Upon reaching the number, the bid was finalised and the audience got up to congratulate the winner.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, began an initiative called 1 Billion Meals Endowment, which will help to start the largest Ramadan sustainable food aid endowment fund. As a part to raise more money, he introduced the Most Noble Numbers charity auction, where people would bid for special vehicle plates and phone numbers. The winning money goes to charity.
