https://www.arabianbusiness.com/: Dubai is expanding the use of artificial intelligence across airport security operations, including passenger screening, unattended baggage detection and camera analysis.

Dubai Police said advanced AI systems are being used to support security teams as passenger numbers continue to grow across the emirate’s airports.

The technology can assist with passenger screening, identify and manage unattended baggage and analyse camera feeds and visual data to improve monitoring and rapid-response capabilities.

Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, called for the wider adoption of AI across airport security operations to improve efficiency, accelerate procedures, support decision-making and strengthen proactive aviation security.

The expansion comes after Dubai Police secured the journeys of 95.2m passengers through Dubai airports in 2025, alongside more than 86.75m pieces of baggage.

Al Marri reviewed the technology during his annual inspection of the General Department of Airport Security.

He said continuing to develop the emirate’s airport security ecosystem and deploy advanced technology and AI were priorities as passenger traffic grows.

Dubai Police is also working on nine development projects designed to improve the passenger journey and streamline procedures between entering the airport and departure.

The General Department of Airport Security identified and addressed 27 improvement opportunities, recording a 100 per cent completion rate.

The department also recorded 100 per cent compliance with national and international civil aviation security standards during internal and external audits for the seventh consecutive year.

Al Marri stressed the importance of continuing to develop security operations, improve readiness and invest in technology and personnel while providing passengers with a seamless travel experience.

Police said 4,542 employees participated in specialised training and development programmes during 2025.

Al Marri said the Police would continue developing its airport security ecosystem and adopting smart and AI technologies as the emirate grows.

During his inspection, he also toured airport facilities including the operations room and smart gates for employees, reviewing security operations, coordination systems and technology intended to improve passenger flows and operational efficiency.
