According to the Khaleej Times, Dubai is exploring various ideas to ensure food security in the future with drones and farm innovations. From bringing in drones that will improve agriculture to building a zone specifically dedicated to producing food, the Emirate is focusing on food security.

The Food Innovation conference which was held last week saw three major and promising innovations in food production and agriculture. Food Tech Valley, an initiative by the government of UAE, will see an entire area in Al Warsan turn into a zone for producing food in Dubai.

“This is going to have a sustainable production of greens, veggies, fruit types like strawberry and berries. So when you have a 100% controlled climate condition, you secure a very high-quality product. It can be certified as organic, and it can directly feed the local markets,” said a spokesperson as per the news outlet.

“So this type of project is very unique in UAE, and especially in Dubai, it's the first zone actually for such activity.” The spokesperson also revealed that the area for the project has been set aside, and 30% of it has already been leased.

“It is very accessible,” said the spokesperson about the location, which is in central Warsan, about five to ten minutes away from the central vegetable market, Dubai Municipality nurseries, and the Emirates Road. “The area has been levelled and the infrastructure is almost ready.”

Moreover, a UAV drone was another innovation exhibited at the conference. Displayed by Elite Agro Projects, it will support sustainable food production in the Emirate.

Arid Farm of the Future, a model displayed at the exhibition also showcased how farms would look like in an arid climate.
