The world challenge offers a generous purse of US$2.3 million
Dubai's Road and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially announced the start of the Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport for the third consecutive year.
The World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport in Dubai will see participants taking part in the field tests.
As per Khaleej Times, it supports the Dubai government’s vision to change 25 percent of total mobility journeys into self-driving journeys by the year 2030.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai shared the announcement of the launch of the field tests for participants for the 3rd edition of Dubai World Challenge for this year’s Self-Driving Transport.
On Wednesday, July 12, 2023, the RTA announced on Twitter that the challenge will also offer a generous $2.3 million prize money. It also shared that the testing will take place at Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ)’s member Dubai Silicon Oasis.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai also shared a minute-long video that showcases the testing of autonomous buses.
The Tweet also revealed that the $2.3 million prize money for this edition of Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport will be divided into two categories including Industry Leaders and Local Academia.
As per the news outlet, the CEO of the Public Transport Agency, Ahmed Bahrozyan who is also the Chairman of the Organising Committee for the Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport said that the challenge supports the Dubai government’s vision to change “25% of total mobility journeys” in the Emirate into those that make use of “self-driving means” by the year 2030. He also revealed that “Self-Driving Buses” is the theme of this edition.
This edition also features growth in the number of participants for the challenge from both categories of Industry Leaders and Local Academia. It was revealed that 27 submissions were received from worldwide candidates.
Meanwhile, the winners of this challenge will be declared during the 3rd Dubai World Congress for Self-Driving Transport which will be organized by the Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai from September 26 to 27.
