Dubai to build new floating pedestrian bridge, 24/7 night swimming beach – First of its kind in the Emirates

Mashable: The United Arab Emirates of Dubai has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world – and, it’s going to get even better with a recently announced million-dollar makeover.

According to the Khaleej Times, two of the city’s most favorite beaches are getting an AED355 million revamp.

On Monday, June 3, 2024, it was unveiled that the Emirates is getting a new floating pedestrian bridge as well as a 24/7 night swimming beach, the first of its kind as part of the Dubai Master Plan for Public Beaches.

Authorities in the emirate unveiled the awarding of contracts to develop Al Mamzar and Jumeirah 1, two of Dubai’s most popular stretches of beaches in a total 5.7-kilometre project costing AED 355 million.

The exciting project that will reshape and enhance the infrastructure of the Dubai beaches will see a floating bridge that will link the two sides of Al Mamzar Beach. The 200-metre pedestrian bridge will see a 4.3km stretch developed. This project is the first of its kind in the Emirate.

Meanwhile, at Jumeirah (1) around 1.4 kilometres stretch will be redeveloped. The project also includes Dubai's first beach dedicated 24/7 to night swimming in Deira, spanning 300 metres.

The project which is expected to be completed in 18 months aims to create a new recreational tourism destination for water sports enthusiasts, beachgoers, and night swimmers.

The two beaches will have a total of 11km of bicycle and running tracks. A 5km walkway that is “surrounded by trees”, and areas for fitness activities, barbecues, and children’s games will also be included.

The beaches will also feature beach rest houses, seasonal event spaces, 1,400 car parking spots, and an automatic irrigation system to keep them green.

Visitors will get high-tech services including safety deposit boxes, electronic screens, WiFi, beach rescue services, as well as 100 security cameras which will be linked to the central control rooms of Dubai Municipality and police, among the other amnesties.

Dubai has a total of eight public beaches including Al Mamzar Corniche, Khor Al Mamzar, Jumeirah 1, Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3, Jebel Ali, Umm Suqeim 1, and Umm Suqeim 2.
