The e-wagons will attain full power at night for glitch-free performance all day.

Middle Eastern countries like the UAE and Saudi Arabia, known for being major oil suppliers to the world, are now zooming towards achieving sustainable development by cutting down emissions, via adoption of clean energy and electric mobility. But to ensure that a public transport infrastructure powered by electric vehicles can function without interruptions, the availability of seamless charging solutions is an essential requirement.

Over the past couple of years, vehicles that draw power directly from the road as they move have been tested in Dubai, and other Emirati cities have introduced e-buses that can attain 100% battery in a record time of 20 minutes. As technology accelerates the city's journey towards the future via smart transportation options, Dubai's road transport authority has sparked off tests for two electric buses, which can be charged using overhead cables, while they are parked.

Capable of attaining full charge at night using the wires or standing arms under which they are placed, the buses can function without interruptions during day time, as they can travel 200 kilometres after getting powered up. Other factors like the terrain, temperature and the use of aur conditioners, also play a part in deciding the energy efficiency of these electric buses from automaker Volvo.

Drivers in the city will also be trained by RTA to handle the 38 seater electric wagons, before more such buses are rolled out for residents, to ensure a sustainable daily commute. On the other hand operators will gain knowhow about controlling both buses as well as the charging network, ahead of the deployment.

The e-vehicles which obviously do away with emissions to avoid air pollution, are also able to cut down noise pollution, and hence stations can be set up at any location.

At the same time, autonomous buses are being tested in Abu Dhabi, and electric vehicles which can be charged in as little as five minutes have also been developed.
