Mashable: Embeds are indeed a crucial experience of the platform since they let anonymous individuals access Twitter.

Although Twitter hasn't yet launched its edit tweet feature, one lingering question is how they will look on other websites. Would Twitter changes be dynamic or static? OR would Twitter provide a radically new feature in addition to or instead of either option? Given how often tweets are used, the answer appears philosophical.

Thanks to app researcher Jane Manchun Wong, we now have a notion of what modified tweets can seem like when they are embedded on a website.

Screenshots she published this week reveal embedded tweets will indicate if the author changed the tweet after the site posted it, leaving the original content intact.

Embedded Tweets will show whether it’s been edited, or whether there’s a new version of the Tweet

When a site embeds a Tweet and it gets edited, the embed doesn’t just show the new version (replacing the old one). Instead, it shows an indicator there’s a new version pic.twitter.com/mAz5tOiyOl

Wong showed how embeds and editing tweets work together. In the first example, a website embeds a changed tweet with the latest modification time. The second example shows a modified tweet that was embedded on a website. The updated tweet includes a label that reads "There's a new version of the tweet" and a link to the latest version on Twitter.

Embeds are indeed a crucial experience of the platform since they let anonymous individuals access Twitter. A lot of news coverage relies on tweets, therefore a tweet's content might affect the entire piece. Twitter has had issues with deleted tweets hosted on websites. When a deleted tweet was embedded, a blank tweet embed box appeared. The company said it made the change to respect the author's request to delete their tweet and to provide a better message than a blank box.

Twitter hasn't officially rolled out edit functionality, so these implementations may change. These seem like good ways to tell viewers if they're seeing the latest amended tweet or if they need to visit Twitter.

In April, Twitter said it would test the edit tool with Twitter Blue users in "the coming months." If you wish to take the trial online, the service has doubled its pricing for new customers.
