Everything from uploading consumption data, electric vehicle charging and metre readings will be handled through the bus.
With the evolution of its digital services offered through a connected infrastructure to facilitate smart living for residents, Dubai has become the model for futuristic urban spaces that are taking shape in the gulf region, and is consistently bringing in intelligent tech from every part of the world to enhance public services. Local bodies in the city including those managing traffic as well as electricity and water, are known for setting up automated mechanisms that predict traffic snarls, map out bus routes, and alert households about leakage to prevent wastage of resources like water.
Dubai's water and power authority DEWA has been making headlines for facilitating paperless transactions, deployment of a robotic employee and installing devices such as smart metres which are designed to help households keep a track of their monthly usage, in order to save resources and money. Now the local organisation has gone a step further to connect diverse applications on its smart grid through an integrated mechanism which can be described as an enterprise service bus, since it acts as a single bandwagon for different services.
Meant for management of different systems from a unified platform, the digital bus will enable seamless electric charging across the city, while it accelerates uploading of consumption data for the convenience of authorities. Using the ESB, metre readings, alarms and events can also be managed via software services, and as many as 600 transactions can be processed in a second, using the intelligent infrastructure.
Ultimately, the enterprise service bus aims to integrate seven IT systems for DEWA, including a management system for EV charging stations in Dubai, along with mobility, the DERASAT app, advanced metering and big data analysis. The project will run systems for the management of energy, networks and distribution for the smart city's water and electricity authority.
Over the past few weeks, the UAE has managed to ensure 100% paperless services, and DEWA has even launched an app for making lives of EV owners easier in the emirate.
