Electric cars may be zooming ahead towards cities in the Middle East that have envisioned a sustainable future for residents, but petrol and diesel very much remain a part of the daily commute for now. On the road to smart mobility across connected urban spaces, digital tools including apps are playing a role in driving up convenience for car owners.

In addition to platforms that offer cars on rent for a longer period of time with free maintenance, a portal which monitors vehicles and connects owners to spare part suppliers has also expanded into the Emirates. Doing its bit to introduce tech-backed innovation on the roads, UAE's national oil firm has launched a fuel pump on wheels to serve drivers anytime, anywhere.

The mobile gas stations, which come with a capacity to carry 30,000 litres of petrol, diesel and biodiesel, can be set up quickly as opposed to traditional facilities that take a year to build. These units can deliver oil to any part of the country, and can refuel up to four wagons at the same time.

It also provides four variations of fuel to power up vehicles, which includes petrol and biodiesel, that can act as a green alternative. To further contribute towards sustainability goals by cutting down emissions, the pump in a van uses biofuel to move around.

Equipped with a smart meter to avoid wastage and digital LED screens, the movable fuel station uses GPS to navigate. To raise the tech savvy quotient of the machine, it remains connected to a cloud for real-time updates.

Although it does cater to motorists who rely on fossil fuels, the refueling unit avoids emissions while refilling, thanks to a vapour capturing mechanism.

ENOC's service will be competing with other digital solutions, including a platform that delivers fuel to the doorstep, and has recently expanded into the Emirates. Carmaker Ford has also tied up with local app CAFU, which alerts drivers when they are low on gas and sends it to them on the move.
