Over a decade after touch screen phones took over from devices which flipped into compact handsets, top brands are trying to attract users with new age flexible gadgets. Tech giant LG was said to be working on a phone with a rollable screen, months before it shut down its smartphone business altogether.

In addition to integration of top notch tech like AI into its phones, Oppo has been introducing users to design features including panels that change colours. To boost festivities in the Emirates during Ramadan, the smartphone world's dark horse has unveiled its rollable concept phone Oppo X 2021 for consumers in the Middle East.

Presented at an iftar event in Dubai, the phone with a super flexible screen has arrived in the region for the first time since its debut appearance in China last year. The handset can roll out to reveal a 7.4 inch display, and can be rolled back to a more compact 6.7 inches.

Oppo X 2021 seamlessly functions like a scroll and the brand claims that it can be stretched out 100,000 times without a crease appearing on the screen. The phone can be unlocked and the display can be rolled out with a swipe on the side button.

But the fascinating exterior isn't all the Oppo has to offer, this device also comes with its own innovative photography tool. The Time of Flight 3D camera enables the concept phone to create an augmented reality experience via sensors.

The ToF tech captures details of an individual or object by sending out infrared light, which returns to the sensor with inputs for crystal clear 3D imaging. These cameras will also be able to blur out backgrounds to provide crisp visuals through pictures and also via videos.

With the consumer base ready to embrace new tech in the post-pandemic marketplace, Oppo's peer Vivo may also release its own foldable gadget this year.
