Mashable: Mark Zuckerberg said in January that the firm would not be hiring and would curtail expenditures due to falling ad income and the economic slump.

An IT worker from North Africa had just finished packing his things to relocate to London for a "life-changing job" at Meta when he got a call that changed his mind.

A recruiter from Meta informed him that his position had been eliminated. In three weeks, he was scheduled to begin working there.

In a detailed report which was first published by Insider, he told the publication that the change was unexpected since "there was nothing that indicated they were reconsidering their choice." A Monday phone call while my flight was scheduled for Friday?

He said he was an engineer and was accepted into Meta's 12-month Discover Production Engineering program. This program teaches people from non-traditional backgrounds about systems and software engineering and may lead to full-time jobs for some of its graduates.

According to him and another IT worker who spoke to Insider, Meta rescinded their offers for the program just before they were to relocate to London. Hence, employees signed non-disparagement agreements with Meta and requested anonymity. The Insider report says that their credentials and job offers were cross-checked and verified.

Because of a decline in advertising and income, Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, declared in January that the company would not be making any new hires and would reduce spending. A representative for Meta has also confirmed the suspension of internship programs. In a recent report it was said that Meta was looking into as many as 12,000 quite layoffs or 15% percent of their staff.

A chance to work at Meta was hailed as a "dream come true" by a North African IT professional. He felt unqualified for a "real software engineer position" due to his lack of expertise. He had faith that Meta's software would pave the way for new possibilities.

I was really looking forward to the move, "he remarked. It's not exactly a walk in the park for someone from my nation to get a visa to enter the United Kingdom. You will need to visit Tunisia, and the staff there were really helpful in every way. "

Neither he nor his family will need to relocate since he has not yet resigned from his employment and he has his own house.

However, a different Italian engineer who was working elsewhere in Europe did not have as good fortune. "It was all predetermined, and I uprooted my life. This past week I not only resigned from my job but also moved out of my residence, "the engineer told Insider.

He said that Amazon and Skyscanner both offered him jobs, but in the end, he chose to sign up for Meta's Discover Production Engineering program instead.

Upon receiving the offer, he was "ecstatic," as he put it.

The Italian engineer said that the recruiter who contacted to withdraw the offer cited "economic constraints" as the reason.

Meta's way of handling his firing made him say that he wouldn't be interested in working for the company again in the future. He explained his decision to leave Meta, saying, "I was interested in working at Meta for the prestige, the compensation, and the interesting oppurtunities and challenges, but after seeing how unfocused leadership is, and the fact that they clearly don't seem to care about their employees and their future employees."

However, the North African IT professional said he would consider applying to Meta again. the moment the firm decides to start accepting new employees again. My experience with them was—until that phone call—very positive. I have no ill will against them".. he made the following statement.
