Expo 2020 Dubai and Alserkal come together to present a new programme for the World Expo

With a series of events lined up for the upcoming mega event, Expo 2020 Dubai and Alserkal, the cultural platform has joined hands to bring a new programme for the World Expo.

The programme, titled ‘Cultures in Conversation’ includes a series of 10 multidisciplinary events like talks, performances, interactive experiences, and artistic interventions.

Commissioned by Expo 2020 and programmed by Alserkal, the initiative is part of the Build Bridges track for Expo’s Programme for People and Planet.

The programme will begin in October and will run throughout the event until March 2022.

Some of the eminent personalities that are a part of Cultures in Conversation include Omar Ghobash, author, and assistant minister for public and cultural diplomacy at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Charles Landry, an urban sociologist and advisor, and also Lumumba Di-Aping, a climate change expert and chair of the Rights of Future Generations Working Group.

Besides these, performers and artists like Mary Ellen Carroll, filmmaker, and poet Nujoom Alghanem, Syrian contemporary dance company Sima, art collecting, and research platform Engage 101, will also be there for the event.

Various discussions on climate and biodiversity, how public spaces in cities can be foster cohesiveness and co-operation in urban communities, issues of artificial intelligence (AI) among others will also be a part of the event’s program.

Other topics of discussion at the Cultures in Conversations programme include space, knowledge and learning, food and agriculture, and water, including maritime trade and current water conflicts existing in the world today.

Cultures in Conversations will take place every Saturday for each of Expo’s Theme Week from October to March.
