Famous Saudi poet Al-Asha’s life celebrated through theatre plays and poetry

The event, titled ‘Al-Asha,’recently launched in the historical Manfouha district in Riyadh.

A haven for literature lovers and visitors Saudi Ministry of Culture organised an event, that celebrates the life of the famous Saudi Arabian poet Al Asha.

The event titled ‘Al-Asha’ articulates the story of Arab poet Maymoon bin Qais bin Jandal. Famously known as Al-Asha, the event showcases his life more creatively.

Born in the town of Manfuha in the middle of the Arabian Peninsula in 570AD in the late pre-Islamic era, the event gives visitors to learn about the details of life and upbringing.

Launched on December 24, the event is taking place in the historical Manfouha district in Riyadh and will run till January 5 on Al-Farian Street, Saudi Arabia.

The event showcases the life of Al-Asha through various interactive cultural activities. Starting from his birth in A.D. 570 to his upbringing and the society he lived in, the event includes an interactive theatre, three-dimensional performances, a children’s corner, a museum, handicrafts and shop area, and an art and music area.

One of the highlights of the event is the play ‘The Poet Maker’ that describes his life in depth. Alongside, poetry evenings embodying the poet’s life and his famous poems is a major feature of the event. Five personalities of the poet Al-Asha at different stages of his life, in addition to the presentation of important personalities who lived in the Arab world.

Additionally, painters, photographers and sculptors have also been taking part in the event, telling the story of Al-Asha from birth to death, including his name, city, travels, poetry, and title.

The occasion also has an area dedicated to the traditional crafts hat present an accurate simulation of the artistries used in the period in which Al-Asha lived, such as papermaking, wickerwork, embroidery, millwork, pottery, tanning, weaving, carpet making, and sword making.

Through the Al-Asha event, the Ministry of Culture seeks to celebrate the revolutionary and founding names of Arab culture, especially those that emerged from the heart of the Arabian Peninsula and who had an impact on the process of Arab creativity since the early ages, such as the poet Al-Asha.
