Artworks by 54 women of science have been selected and will be screened at the exhibition.
Giving women with a background in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) the much-needed helpfulness, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has come forward to give female scientists a chance to showcase their experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic through the medium of art.
Titled ‘Creative Resilience’ UNESCO’s art exhibition at Expo 2020 Dubai showcase these women “sci-artists” providing testimony of how COVID-19 has transformed human interaction and societies, through painting, photography, digital drawing, block print, sculpture, crochet and film.
Artworks by 54 women of science have been selected, including neuroscientists, microbiologists, doctors, nurses, medical students, researchers, science communicators, engineers, and mathematicians of all ages whose works will be screened in the exhibition.
These ‘sci-artists’ come from 31 countries including Argentina, Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, Czechia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Dominica, Ecuador, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Latvia, Malaysia, Norway, Pakistan, Philippines, Republic of Moldova, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Slovakia, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Turkey, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the United States of America.
To feature such talented minds, UNESCO issued a global call for contribution to women with a background in STEM in July 2021 and was first launched in Paris in October 2021.
While art lovers in Paris witnessed the amazing works, it is the visitors of Expo 2020 Dubai who is making a beeline at the #UNHub at Mission Possible – The Opportunity Pavilion to attend the exhibition.
The exhibition which will be on till February 24 is a part of Expo 2020 Dubai’s diverse programme of activities for the International Day for Women and Girls in Science.
The program aims to achieve full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls, and further achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
