Mashable: FIFA is likely to change the schedule for World Cup Qatar 2022

FIFA is looking forward to moving the start date for the 2022 World Cup.

The start date for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament is likely to be moved forward.

FIFA is planning to let Qatar, the host country play Ecuador on November 20, 2022, and that might result in the World Cup beginning a day earlier than scheduled.

On Wednesday, as per The Associated Press, a source told that the host nation will now play the opening game of its own World Cup tournament.

The World Cup Qatar 2022 is all set to begin in three months. The tournament was scheduled to start on Monday, 21 November 2022, and end on Sunday, 18 December 2022.

The source said that the decision on the date change could be made within some days by a committee comprising of Ginni Infantino who is FIFA President and the heads of the six continental soccer bodies.

Qatari officials and South American soccer body CONMEBOL are in favor of the proposal to create a 29-day tournament instead of the 28-day planned one. The talk also involves Qatar and Ecuador soccer federations the source told.

The FIFA World Cup 2022 which will feature 32 teams is set to open on Monday, November 21 with the Netherlands facing Senegal. However, six hours later on the same day, Qatar and Ecuador who are also in Group A are scheduled for a match.

The World Cup Qatar 2022 is the first in the tournament's 92-year history to be played outside the traditional summer days and in the middle of the European domestic season.

Football’s most prestigious tournament, FIFA is traditionally held over the summer season but due to extreme heat in the host nation, it was decided that the World Cup 2022 will be held in November- December.
