Mashable: After Google Duo was discontinued for iOS and Android, Google Meet quickly became one of the most downloaded apps.
A recent announcement from Google says that users can now turn their Meet conversations into text and save the results as a Google Doc.
After Google Duo was discontinued for iOS and Android, Google Meet quickly became one of the most downloaded apps. Google says that the new feature is only available in the English language and can be used on desktop or laptop clients of Google Meet.
According to Google, the transcribed file may be saved alongside the original in the Google Meet app's "Meeting Recordings" folder. Before they join the session, those on the Google Meet call will be told that it is being transcribed.
The purpose of these transcripts is to record what was said at the meeting, give participants and the host something to look back on, and make it easier for people to ask questions about specific parts of the meeting.
The "transcript will immediately connect to the relevant calendar invite for the meeting," which is a very neat addition.
Also, the transcribed file will be made available to meeting organizers, hosts, co-hosts, and individual users who asked for transcription for meetings with more than 200 attendees.
Additionally, Google Meet will soon automatically frame video before attending a meeting to ensure all participants have equal visibility. Google stated this automated framing will only happen at the beginning of a meeting, so there are no motion distractions. Users can reframe videos manually via settings. This feature is disabled by default and may be activated in meetings.
The new features will be available to everyone on October 24. Users with Google Workspace Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Starter, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Plus, and the Teaching and Learning Upgrade will have access to it.
