The art piece, which shows a heart with two figures entwined, is titled ‘We Rise Together – with the Light of the Moon’.
More so than ever, NFTs are the talk of the town and almost everywhere, NFTs (Non-fungible tokens) have taken over the world. But now not just the world, even the moon will be taken over by NFT as this new artwork will be placed on the surface of the Moon.
Unveiled at a press conference at the USA Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, the first-ever artwork titled ‘We Rise Together – with the Light of the Moon’ created by Dubai-based British creator Sacha Jafri will be the first-ever official artwork to be placed on the moon.
With the help of the NASA CLPS initiative, the artwork will be launched to the Moon in the second half of this year, where it will remain forever, and even be declared a UNESCO Heritage Site.
The placement of the artwork will be done Moon by Spacebit, a company developing space exploration technology, and Astrobotic Technology Inc, a company providing end-to-end delivery services for payloads to the Moon. The artistic/humanitarian aspect of the mission has been put together by Selenian, a company specialising in the curation of art in space.
Jafri’s artwork, which has been made to withstand extreme conditions including temperatures as low as -173°C and up to 123°C, is due to land on the moon later this year and will also have a second version of the work that will be sold at auction.
Needless to say, there also will be NFTs (non-fungible tokens), one to commemorate each of the mission’s five steps, from the rocket launch to the moon landing to the aluminium plate being left to ‘rest in the solitude of the moon eternally’.
