Google Chrome is among the most loved browsers out there on almost every platform and one of the key reason why its always ahead in features is because Google's team is always chopping off and adding features that are practical. However, these features don't always find themselves on the next final version of Chrome.
Instead, they show up first on what's called the Google 'Chrome Canary' channel and then move over to the Chrome Beta channel before finally arriving on the stable version. Well, Google is now releasing a new experimentative feature on Chrome Canary which will make it easier for users to remain up to speed with their favorite websites, as and when they post something new.
As a part of this experiment, Google are going to be rolling out a new Follow button in Chrome’s overview menu. Once you ascertain a website you like getting your news from has an RSS feed, you'll be able to see and tap on this Follow button to subscribe to it. New content published by websites you follow are going to be shown during a new “Following” section on the New Tab page.
The new feature sees the return of RSS to tug new content from websites. As such, Google recommends publishers keep their RSS feed up so far to make sure that Chrome can always provide the newest content with this experiment.
Don't get too excited on this feature making its way to the stable Chrome though. The Follow button is going to be a limited experiment and it'll only roll out to a little set of Android users within the US on Chrome Canary for the time being and if it takes off, only then do we see it show up on the next Beta version.
Google says they're going to provide more guidance to publishers as they still evaluate this experiment and can even be gathering feedback from bloggers, creators, and other stakeholders.
