The attempt at a back-to-normal show had been scheduled for Jan. 31st at the newly renamed Crypto.com Arena.

After the outrageous waves of the COVID-19 pandemic, the new omicron variant has been of the major concern of late and events lined up in the forthcoming days have been undergoing postponement or even cancellation.

One of the major events that are being postponed due to the omicron variant is the Grammy Awards that was pushed ahead on Wednesday, weeks before the planned Los Angeles ceremony was over.

The organisers of the event said “too many risks” from the omicron variant, hinting at what could be the start of another year of pandemic upheaval for awards season.

The mega event was scheduled to take place on January 31 at the newly renamed Crypto.com Arena with a live audience and performances. However, the event has been called off and no new dates have been decided as yet.

The Recording Academy said in a statement, “After careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners, the Recording Academy and CBS have postponed the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards Show. The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority.”

The Academy's statement further said, “Given the uncertainty surrounding the omicron variant, holding the show on January 31st simply contains too many risks.”

Like major awards shows in early 2021, the Grammy Awards, too, were postponed due to coronavirus concerns. The show was then moved from late January to mid-March and held with a minimal audience made up of mostly nominees and their guests in and around the Los Angeles Convention Center, next door to its usual home.

While it was a big night for some stars like Beyoncé and Taylor Swift, the class apart live performances at Grammys, were set separately with no significant crowds, many of them pre-taped.
“We look forward to celebrating Music’s Biggest Night on a future date, which will be announced soon,” the academy statement said.
