Mashable: The Astronomy Center has posted a photograph of the crescent moon, which marks the beginning of the Muharram (1445 AH). The sighting occurred in Jordan and the UAE.
According to the Khaleej Times, the moon was sighted in Abu Dhabi by the Al Khatim Observatory, and was shot by Mohamed Odeh. The distance between the sun and the moon is reported as 7.9 degrees.
Whereas in Jordan, the crescent appeared in Irbi at 9:48 UAE time, and was shot by Dr. Anas Sawalha. The distance here between the two entities is slightly smaller: 7.7 degrees.
Saudi Arabia's Supreme court shared a separate announcement where they noted that Tuesday will be the end of the Dhul Hijjah, 1444 Hijri. Gulf News reports that Umm Al Qura calendar, will usher Muharram 1445 Hijri on Wednesday, July 19.
However, the moon will be hard to see with the naked eye in Asia and Africa on 18 July, says the Astronomy Center. Maybe, a telescope can help various countries. It will be difficult to spot the crescent tonight (July 18, 2023) with the naked eye, in Asia and most of Africa. There are some countries which will be able to spot the moon with naked eye.
1st of Muharram is the beginning of the new Islamic year (1445H), and is based on on lunar cycles, unlike the Gregorian calendar's solar cycle.
