Egypt Today: CAIRO – 20 April 2026: Tourism at Luxor’s ancient temples and archaeological sites is flourishing as a massive influx of international visitors arrives to experience the city's unique atmosphere.
The surge in visits is revitalizing activity across the tombs and temples located on both the East and West Banks of the Nile.
Daily crowds of tourists are flocking to the Luxor Temple, accessible via the historic Sidi Abu Haggag Square. This landmark, constructed during the reign of King Amenhotep III, remains a central attraction for visitors from approximately 38 countries, including Spain, the Netherlands, the United States, Brazil, China, France, and Japan.
In addition to site visits, Luxor saw the resumption of hot air balloon flights following recent weather-related cancellations.
Thirty-seven balloons took to the skies on Monday, carrying roughly 900 tourists. These excursions offer a spectacular perspective of the West Bank, allowing visitors to soar 2,000 feet above ancient monuments and the Nile River.
Hot air ballooning has become a staple of the Luxor experience, with many travelers seeking the "adrenaline rush" and panoramic views provided by the flight. The high demand for these trips underscores Luxor’s enduring appeal as a premier destination for historical exploration and adventure tourism.
