One of the Middle East’s prominent art fairs –Art Dubai has unveiled its dates for the next edition and the event is set to take place from March 10 to 12, 2022 at Dubai’s Madinat Jumeriah.

The organisers announced the dates of the 15th edition on Thursday and said that it is currently accepting applications for three main galleries—Contemporary, Modern, and Bawwaba (‘gateway’ in Arabic).

The Contemporary section showcases galleries from around the world, ranging from emerging art scenes to established centres, presenting solo or group shows and offering new global perspectives to help cultivate a culture of discovery.

The Modern section features presentations by modern masters from the MENASA region. Featuring exceptional works by 20th-century artists working in specific geo-historical contexts, the section aims to drive new narratives and connections across exhibited presentations and across time.

Bawwaba—meaning gateway in Arabic, will serve as a portal to discover works created in the past year or specifically for the fair, offering visitors a curated reading of current artistic developments across wide geographical scopes across ‘The Global South’, via ambitious solo artist presentations.

The event will highlight the rich cultural heritage and contemporary art practices in areas ranging from the Middle East to territories across Asia and Africa as well as Latin America, offering exciting new global perspectives.

Art Dubai has also launched a new support scheme for young galleries, foregrounding artistic practices from the Global South where fees are only paid upon sales. The fair, which is running across its Contemporary and Bawwaba sections, galleries must be younger than 5 years and submit a unique proposal to exhibit artists from the Middle East, Africa, Central, and South Asia, and/or Latin America.
