This year's iPhone 14 and 14 Max will use an A15 processor, but the RAM will be increased from 4 GB to 6 GB.

Ming-Chi Kuo, a renowned analyst, tweeted today that he believes Apple will break tradition this year and release some iPhone 14 models with the same A15 chip as the iPhone 13.

According to a report by MacRumors this year's iPhone 14 and 14 Max will use an A15 processor, but the RAM will be increased from 4 GB to 6 GB. A16 SoC would be reserved for the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which are more expensive. The Pro series of the iPhone 14 lineup will however retain the same 6 GB of RAM.

If this is true, it would be the first time in nearly a decade that Apple would separate the specifications of its flagship iPhone according to the type of chip series it is using. The last time Apple did this was back in 2013 when the iPhone 5S received the A7 processor while the less expensive iPhone 5C received the A6 processor, which was already one year old.

It should be noted that Kuo's claim runs counter to a rumor from Jeff Pu of Haitong International Securities, who claimed that the iPhone 14 Pro models will have 8GB of RAM, which would be equal to the amount of RAM found in the Samsung Galaxy S22 versions of the phone. Having said that, Pu has a mixed track record when it comes to Apple rumors.

Examples include his accurate prediction that 16-inch MacBook Pro and iPad Pro models with mini-LED displays would launch in 2021, but his incorrect prediction that HomePods with 3D sensing cameras would launch in 2019.

Despite the fact that this is a somewhat out-of-the-blue rumor in isolation, Ming-Chi Kuo has a strong track record of being accurate in the past.

Additionally, 9to5Mac has learned from reliable sources that Apple is working on two new iPhone 14 models with A16 processors and two iPhone 14 models with A15 processors, which is consistent with what Kuo has stated today.

Even if they haven't done it to the same degree, Apple has used chip differentiation strategies in the past. As an illustration, the A15 chip inside the iPhone 13 Pro has more RAM and GPU cores than the A15 chip found inside the iPhone 13.

Apple will offer a large-screen iPhone at a lower price point in 2022, according to multiple sources. For the first time, the company will offer a non-Pro 6.7-inch ‘Max' screen. The 5.4-inch ‘mini' screen is gone. That means the iPhone 14 lineup will only come in two sizes this fall: 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch.
