Mashable: Portugal thrashed Switzerland 6-1

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo's girlfriend has slammed the team’s manager on the players’ omission in the crucial Round of 16 match against Switzerland.

Portugal’s star player Ronaldo has been in the headlines for quite a while now, this time it was when teams manager Fernando Santos made the decision to bench Cristiano.

While Ronaldo stayed on the bench, his substitute Goncalo Ramos bagged a hattrick. Other players including Pepe, Raphael Guerrero, and Rafael Leao netted one goal each.

Fernando Santos’ decision paid off well as Portugal won 6-1 against Switzerland in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Round of 16 match and secured a spot in the quarter-finals.

Fernando Santos’ decision to bench Ronaldo may have raised several eyebrows, but Goncalo Ramos made sure to fill in. While, Ronaldo played the matches against Ghana, Uruguay, and South Korea for this year's tournament, it seems that many were not satisfied.

After the crucial game against Switzerland which was held at Lusail Stadium in Qatar on December 6, 2022, the star player's partner Georgina Rodriguez took to her official Instagram account and shared her dissatisfaction.

Sharing the images from the stadium, Georgina Rodriguez wrote, “Congratulations Portugal. While the 11 players sang the anthem all goals placed on you.”

She continued, “What a shame he didn't get to enjoy the best player in the world for the 90 minutes.”

“The fans haven't stopped claiming you and screaming your name,” taking a dig at Fernando, she added, “I hope God and your dear friend Fernando hold hands and make us vibrate one more night ”

Although, Ronaldo did come off the bench in the 73rd minute of the match as a substitute for Joao Felix.

Now in the quarter-finals, Portugal will face Morocco after they beat Spain on penalties.
