In a recent interview with Nikki Scotty's Little Soldiers - a charity supporting children who have lost their parents in the military, Prince Harry poured his heart out. The Duke of Sussex opened up about losing his mother, Princess Diana when he was only twelve years old.
Princess Diana died in a car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997, along with her partner, Dodi Fayed.

The Duke of Sussex, who met youngsters during his UK visit in May, spoke about the misconception a child can have after losing a loved one. He said, "You convince yourself that the person you've lost wants you to - or that you need to be sad as long as possible to prove to them that they're missed. Then there's this realization of 'they must want me to be happy'."

He further spoke about the importance of talking about your loss as a way to celebrate the person's life. He shared, "That's the hardest thing, especially for kids, I think it's 'I don't want to talk about it because it makes me sad'. But once realising that if I do talk about it, and I'm celebrating their life, then actually things become easier, as opposed to not talking about it."

"It can be for a period of time... you can't suppress it forever. It's nonsustainable. And will eat away at you inside," added Harry.

The Duke of Sussex has always been vocal about dealing with the pain of losing his mum. In 2017, Prince Harry had explained how difficult it was for him to handle the news of his mother's death. "My mother had just died, and I had to walk a long way behind her coffin, surrounded by thousands of people watching me. I don't think any child should be asked to do that," he told Newsweek.

Prince Harry married Meghan Markle in 2018. They stepped down as senior royals in 2020. The couple moved to Montecito, California, and have been busy living with their two children - Archie and Lilibet.
