Princess Diana was killed in a horror car crash in Paris.
Princess Diana died in a car crash on August 31, 1997, in Paris. Her partner Dodi Fayed and their driver Henri Paul (who was found to have been intoxicated at the time of the accident), also tragically died in the car crash. Over the years, a lot has been said about the shocking incident. Now, after almost three decades, Princess Diana's bodyguard, Ken Wharfe, who worked with her for six years, opened up about the key mistakes that led to Diana's tragic death in 1997.
Speaking to The Sun, Wharfe revealed that the beloved royal family member would have been alive if the car had been driven by Dodi Fayed's bodyguard, Trevor Rees-Jones, instead of Henri Paul.
Additionally, Ken Wharfe also stated that another mistake made on the day of the incident was the decision to exclude the local police, who could have handled the media situation well. He added that media shouldn't have been treated like enemies.
Wharfe added that Queen Elizabeth had asked the late Princess Diana to have Scotland Yard's security with herself, and if only she had decided to keep the protection, she would have possibly avoided the car accident. The bodyguard further revealed that he had a conversation with Diana to keep the Scotland Yard officers, but just weeks later, she cut all ties with her security.
Princess Diana was only 36 at the time of her death. Her sons with King Charles, Prince William, and Prince Harry, were 15 and 12, respectively. August 31, 2024, marked her 27th death anniversary.
