Prominent buildings in the UAE light up in tricolour to extend support in India’s fight against COVID-19 situation

India has been one of the most adversely affected countries in the world dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. As the country it wrestles with a double gremlin of rising COVID-19 cases and a stretched healthcare system, the world’s tallest building –Burj Khalifa lit up in tricolour of the Indian national flag in solidarity with India amid the Covid-19 crisis.

Burj Khalifa on Sunday, lit up in saffron, white, and green with the 24-spoked Ashok Chakra to show support to the country during this difficult time. The lights at the building also displayed the message of ‘Stay strong India’ as the country deals with a deadly wave of the virus.

Taking to the official account, Burj Khalifa wrote, “Sending hope, prayers, and support to India and all its people during this challenging time. #BurjKhalifa #StayStrongIndia,” along with sharing the video of the light display.

With the numerous hospitals running out of oxygen and medical infrastructure, the situation in India has been griming. However, many countries including the UAE has extended support to India and have sent solidarity messages.

While Burj Khalifa tweeted the video of the tricolour display on the world’s tallest tower, the Abu Dhabi and Dubai Media Offices tweeted images of the Indian national flag from multiple landmarks in the emirate with the same message written in English, Arabic and Hindi.

Following the posts, Indian missions in the UAE retweeted those messages and expressed India’s gratitude towards the UAE’s solidarity in the challenging times. “We thank our friend #UAE for standing by us in these testing times,” the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi tweeted.
Meanwhile, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan also acknowledged his confidence in India’s ability to overcome the challenge of the resurgence in COVID-19 cases. He reiterated the UAE’s full support for and solidarity with India.

He also expressed the UAE’s keenness to dedicate all resources in support of the efforts currently undertaken by the government of India.
This came in a phone call made by Sheikh Abdullah on Sunday with Indian Minister of External Affairs, Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

Sheikh Abdullah extended his sincere condolences to Dr Jaishankar for the victims of the deadly pandemic and expressed his wishes for health and wellness to the people of India.
