Mashable: ispace lost connection with the lander after it attempted a soft landing on the moon’s surface

Arab world’s first attempt to reach the Moon failed last month after the Japanese startup ispace lost connection with the lander carrying Rashid Rover.

Japanese startup ispace inc has revealed what actually caused the failure of the Hakuto-R moon landing mission last month.

As per Khaleej Times, ispace inc revealed the reason behind its Hakuto-R moon landing failure on Friday.

If ispace's Hakuto-R Mission 1 lander had made soft-landing on the lunar surface, the Arab world's first attempt to reach the Moon would have succeeded.

Its success would also reportedly have been the world's first commercial soft-landing on the lunar surface.

The United Arab Emirates-based Rashid Rover was being carried by the Tokyo-based firm’s Hakuto-R Mission 1 lander last month.

The Japan startup lost connection with the lander after the spacecraft attempted the soft landing on the moon's surface.

Now, as per the news outlet, the company revealed that the crash was caused due to an altitude miscalculation which means the spacecraft would have run out of fuel.

Dubai-based Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), earlier this week, shared some Nasa images of the site where the spacecraft is said to have crashed.

This failure is the latest setback in the Asian country’s space program.

Takeshi Hakamada, the chief executive of ispace spoke to reporters at the Japan National Press Club and said, that through the missions, they “increase” their knowledge as much as possible to achieve “stable commercialisation in the future.”

The next ispace mission is scheduled for 2024 and will see another M1 lander carrying the company’s own rover.
