Mashable: Amazon had issued a directive for its employees to resume working in the office for three days per week from May onwards.

The Chief Executive Officer of Amazon Andy Jassy has unequivocally communicated to the company's employees that they are required to commence working from the office. Recent reports indicate that a significant number of employees have expressed reluctance to return to the office, with many opting to resign rather than work from the office for three days a week.

Amazon had issued a directive for its employees to resume working in the office for three days per week from May onwards, a considerable number of Amazon personnel expressed their discontentment with the decision. A petition was signed by thousands of workers in opposition to the mandate, and a walkout was staged in response.

Earlier this year, Jassy asserted that Amazon had made several observations during the pandemic when teams transitioned to home or hybrid work models. The company discovered that it is more convenient to acquire, emulate, exercise, and reinforce its culture when employees are physically present in the office. Additionally, Amazon posits that conventional working practices facilitate collaboration and innovation, and that learning from colleagues is more effectively accomplished in a face-to-face setting.

Amazon has mandated that its employees must physically report to the office for a minimum of three days per week. This decision is based on the belief that there is a certain quality to interpersonal communication that occurs when individuals are in close proximity to one another, making eye contact, and fully engaged in the topic at hand. This type of interaction has the power to create strong bonds between people.

In the month of July, leaked messages indicated that Amazon may seek to encourage "voluntary resignations" from employees who are unwilling to relocate to the physical hubs where their respective teams operate. Certain employees have also opted to resign of their own accord. Furthermore, the company has initiated the issuance of warnings to personnel with regards to their physical attendance, as per reports from Insider.
