The innovation was showcased by UAE's young talent at Dubai Design Week.

After establishing itself as a tech-savvy hub of innovation in the Middle East, powered by the most sophisticated gadgets and the fastest data services that the world has to offer, UAE has set its sights on achieving food security for a sustainable future. The major oil exporter which still relies heavily on imports to satiate the demand of nutrition from its fast-growing population, has deployed drones to zap clouds for more rains, is experimenting with nano-clay and is also growing plants in salty water.

Already home to vertical farms in climate controlled environments, that use less water and no chemicals, UAE also has AI in place to monitor crops with precision that even examines each leaf to verify quality. Since smart tech has entered the field to start a green revolution in the desert, young innovators in the Emirates have developed a robot which is designed to sow seeds in the parched terrain, for a more self-reliant future.

Aptly named as A'seedbot after its job description, the tiny droid is equipped with solar panels to absorb the sun's energy during the day, before using the power to cultivate farms in the desert at night. The farming-bot uses sensors to detect fertile land in the dry environment, and then proceeds to plant seeds thanks to the guidance provided by smart data analysis.

Showcased at Dubai Design Week by a student, the robot was among other solutions for sustainability, including packaging for bakery products made from ingredients used in bread itself. The biodegradable material called 'Beyond Breads' is not just fit for repurposing, but it can also be used for feeding birds later on.

Agriculture in the region is on the way to tremendous progress with hydroponics where fish and greens are grown together, along with domes to cultivate crops in harsh climatic conditions and smart gardens which allow people to generate vegetation at home. Delivery of healthy meals is also strengthened thanks to 3D printed containers, carried around by robotic vehicles.
