Mashable: Located 40 kilometers off the coastline, 'THE RIG' stands near Al Juraid Island and the Berri Oil Field in the Arabian Gulf.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has revealed the masterplan for 'THE RIG,' poised to become the world's first adventure tourism destination, drawing inspiration from offshore oil platforms. Developed by the Oil Park Development Company (OPDC), a closed joint-stock entity wholly owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), 'THE RIG' is set to redefine marine sports and global adventure tourism.

The visionary project aligns seamlessly with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 goals, aiming to bolster tourism, generate employment opportunities, attract investments, and diversify the national economy. Spanning an expansive 300,000 square meters, the facility is strategically located 40 kilometers from the coastline, near Al Juraid Island and Berri Oil Field in the Arabian Gulf.

CEO of OPDC, Raed Bakhrji, envisions 'THE RIG' as a magnet for over 900,000 domestic, regional, and international visitors annually by the year 2032. The destination is designed to cater to a diverse audience, including adrenaline enthusiasts, explorers, those seeking balanced holidays, and individuals in pursuit of relaxation.

'THE RIG' will boast three hotels offering a total of 800 rooms, 11 restaurants, a marina, helipads, and an extreme sports and adventure park. The array of water-based activities includes a diving center, amusement park, splash park, E-sports center, immersive theater, and a multi-purpose arena, ensuring a multifaceted and thrilling experience for visitors.

This ambitious venture celebrates Saudi Arabia's rich oil and gas heritage, presenting an exceptional destination on the global stage. Initiated in 2021 by Saudi Arabia's sovereign fund, 'THE RIG' not only marks a significant leap in the realm of adventure tourism but also symbolizes the country's commitment to sustainable economic growth.
