Mashable: This happened a few weeks after an all-women's football team played their first match.
It’s a great day for Saudi Women. In a first, the Kingdom sent its team of women players to participate in International Tennis Federation (ITF) game, reports Al Jazeera.
According to the report, later this week, the four members will be a part of the Asia/Oceania pre-qualifying category in the Billie Jean King Cup Juniors, which will occur in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The team’s captain, Areej Farah, said, “This is an amazing experience, and it is so empowering.”
Further expanding on this, she added how taking part in such events is “a big step for women’s tennis” in the country, and they are extremely “proud to represent” Saudi at the international level.

Farah further explained that the women will do their best, adding, “Watching doors open for our young Saudi female athletes is beyond exciting.”
Saudi’s new regulations have changed a lot of things for women, especially their participation in male-dominated activities, including business and sport. In another first earlier this month, the Kingdom’s all women’s football team played their very first match.

Al Jazeera notes that ITF and the Saudi Arabian Tennis Federation worked together for several years to ensure the junior group could be a part of such events.

According to Amir Borghei, development officer for Western and Central Asia, the Saudi Arabian Tennis Federation’s take on the team has been very helpful to “form a girl's team.” He adds this is such a “wonderful” opportunity to see.
