Mashable: The city will be run entirely on renewable energy.
Saudi Arabia's megacity project known as ‘The Line’ at NEOM has started construction.
Since it was first announced in 2017, NEOM has attracted attention for its extravagant ideas, including flying taxis and robot maids, even as economists and architects have cast doubt on its feasibility.
However, a construction video of a part of the massive site has been recently released, making it a believable project. The drone footage was revealed by Saudi Arabia-based OT Sky drone company.
Saudi Arabia’s 500-metre tall mirrored linear city is now under construction. This footage by @otskydrone captured part of the massive site that will eventually stretch for 170-kilometres across the desert. #construction #engineering #architecture pic.twitter.com/VnGEnR4xqB

The video showed the excavators digging deep trenches in the desert. The 170-kilometre-long, 500-metre-tall city, situated in the north-western Tabuk region of the country, boasts a mirrored wall and plans to house nine million people.
But this is just one of the many projects that make up the $500 billion Neom project. The project aims to create an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered futuristic city featuring areas for work, play, and living, where everything will be reachable "within a five-minute walk" and an efficient public transportation system will enable end-to-end travel in only 20 minutes.
The city will be run entirely on renewable energy, such as wind, solar, and hydrogen power, making it the first city in the world to do so. The lush vegetation will be planted across the city to promote coexistence with nature.
"There will be no roads, cars or emissions. It will run on 100% renewable energy and 95% of the land will be preserved for nature. People's health and wellbeing will be prioritised over transportation and infrastructure, unlike traditional cities,” according to the NEOM website.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman who announced the designs of 'The Line' said this will create a new way of living boosted by clean energy.
