Be it oranges or sweet lemons, Saudi Arabia boasts of its plentiful citrus fruits production and what better to highlight the citrus fruit heritage than a Citrus fruit festival.
In the month of January, AlUla in Saudi Arabia is hosting its first citrus fruit festival that is going to take place on January 7 and 8 and January 14 and 15 at the AlMahkar Farm.

Organised by Royal Commission for Al-Ula, the fruit festival is expected to see hundreds of attendees wherein growers from across the region are gearing up to show off their produce.

To highlight the agricultural position of Al-Ula that it has gained for thousands of years, the farmers participating in the event will display the most prominent produces, that include Jaffa, Baladi and Abo Surra oranges, torounge, clementines, mandarins, sweet lemons, limes, grapefruits, pomelos, kumquats, and citrons picked from 200,000 trees across AlUla.

Through the festival, the Royal Commission for Al-Ula seeks to boost the economic growth of the province, through community initiatives and development projects.

The festival is taking place at a time when the seasonal harvest period for the production of farms is at its peak, during which various types of citrus fruits that are famous in the Al-Ula farms, will be on display.

Due to its several health benefits, citrus fruits are a vital part of people’s diets in many Arabian communities. They are rich in Vitamin C and are also a key ingredient in popular dishes like Kabsa.

The art of nurturing citrus fruits in AlUla had been passed down over generations and a festival like this will only highlight its rich heritage.

Apart from the display of citrus fruits, visitors at the festival will be able to enjoy a range of family-friendly activities and interactive experiences, including cooking with local citrus fruits.
