Saudi Arabia, in its consistent development efforts, has now ventured into its first professional cultural union as the Saudi Ministry of Culture announces the launch of its first professional cultural association in the field of libraries.
The launch of the association comes along with the formation of its board of directors, headed by Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Tayyar. The initiative aims to form 16 professional associations in 13 cultural sectors during 2021.
The launch comes as a part of Saudi Vision 2030 launched by the ministry with the support of the government’s Quality of Life Program, this comes as part of an initiative to establish professional cultural associations.
This professional association aims to raise awareness of the importance of the field, to empower its professionals, support research and studies related to it, and also contribute to building policies and standards that regulate the work of the library sector in line with the best local and international practices.
The association will bring together Saudi intellectuals and artists from the field and provide opportunities for professionals in these sectors to develop their skills, build their initiatives, develop awareness, create support mechanisms, and form an attractive social model for culture and the arts in the Kingdom.
The Ministry of Culture supervises 46 non-profit cultural organisations from the Kingdom, that is distributed among institutions, NGOs, and amateur clubs, in the fields of heritage, literature, film, visual arts, libraries, architecture, theatre, performing arts, translation, fashion, and music.
Thus, a professional association is going to make way for the young minds to explore the field of libraries along with connecting with the intellectuals from the field.
