Sharjah Art Foundation calls for entries for their annual photography competition ‘Vantage Point Sharjah 9’

Inviting all the photographers from all over the world, Sharjah Art Foundation’s annual photography competition –the Vantage Point Sharjah 9 (VPS9) is here, and the foundation has been calling photographers to join the contest.

An annual initiative dedicated to the practice of photography; the ninth edition of the competition is welcoming established as well as emerging photographers from all over the world.

The competition is accepting entries in the categories photojournalism and documentary, conceptual, experimental and staged photography for its annual photography exhibition. The applicants are free to choose their theme artistic approach that falls under these categories.

 
Photographers can submit up to six photographs for the entry and each application must contain descriptions of the works and a biography. Not just that, they also need to submit a brief biography with a brief overview of their photography practice, a list of previous solo or group exhibitions, residencies and awards (if any) and information about related educational and/or professional experience.

Participants can submit their work until July 3, post which the jury will begin the selection process for the Vantage Point Sharjah 9, the exhibition of which is going to take place in September.

Experts from the field like Moroccan photographer M’hammed Kilito, Syrian photographer and architect Sham Enbashi, Emirati photographers Ammar Al Attar and Alia Al Shamsi among others are a part of the jury team.

The team of jury members are going to select a winner for each category who will be awarded $1,500.

Over the years, the competition has only expanded its call for participants. Which started out as GCC participants only, started accepting applicants outside the GCC from 2019 and allowed works across various themes and styles.

As the photographers’ gear for the contest, the exhibition is scheduled to take place at Al Hamriyah Studios, an off-site location for Sharjah Art Foundation on September 18, 2021.
